Indiana University has extended the contract of its top researcher. Fred Cate, who was named vice president for research in 2015, will continue in the position another four years. Last year, researchers at the university received a record $614.1 million in external funding, beating the previous record of $604 million in 2010. Cate’s job involves overseeing research development, administration and compliance, as well as the Office of the Vice Provost for Research at the Bloomington campus and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research at IUPUI. He also led the launch of the $300 million IU Grand Challenges initiative.
Cate previously served as director the IU Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research for more than a decade.
