A new report from U.S. News & World Report ranks Indiana at the top among the "Best States For Government." The measure was part of an overall state ranking released by the publication.

Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-88) says the ranking is the result of years of hard work to streamline government operations, improve services and enhance transparency.

"A leaner, more efficient state government has led to a decade of honestly balanced budgets, healthy reserves, fully funded pension liabilities and a AAA credit rating," said Bosma. "With a strong fiscal foundation, Indiana has consistently been in the national spotlight for its outstanding business climate, resulting in record job creation and more Hoosiers working than ever before. Today’s report listing Indiana at the top of the best states for government confirms we are on the right track and I will work hard to continue moving Indiana forward."

The publication also ranks Indiana fourth in the nation for opportunity and affordability. Indiana received an overall ranking of 22 in the nation, according to the publication.

"Strong leadership over the last 12 years has made our government efficient and our fiscal position healthy and solid," said Holcomb. "To attract the talent and businesses necessary to position our state for a successful future, we need Indiana to pop off the map as a top performing state. Folks around the nation are already learning just how much further their dollar goes here in Indiana, and with a strong focus on these key priorities, we will continue to move the needle by every measure."

Indiana beat out Virginia, Utah, North Carolina and Wisconsin for the top spot in the government category. You can connect to the full list by clicking here.
