The Indiana Finance Authority has extended the state rebate given to the operator of the Indiana Toll Road. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the rebate, which helps keep tolls low for drivers with electronic transponders, will run through April 30.

The rebate keeps tolls at their 1985 rates for EZPass users and motorists with compatible transponders, according to the publication. The rebate was originally set to expire in June 30, 2016 but was extended to December 31 and again to February 28 of this year.

"A small but final balance of funds remains available in the toll subsidy account, which allows the State to extend the discount for a short time longer," IFA Public Finance Director Dan Huge said in a written statement to The Times. "The IFA will apply the remaining balance toward the tolling subsidy."

The IFA says about $11 million remains in the state’s account, the money from which comes from the proceeds of the 2006 lease of the toll road to the Indiana Toll Road Concession Co. A spokesperson for ITRCC tells the publication the decision on what to do when the rebate finally expires is being assessed.
