A Purdue University-affiliated virtual reality technology company has received $100,000 in investment funding. AccuPS LLC is developing a 3-D motion-tracking controller for mobile VR users.

AccuPS says the investment puts the group a step closer to making its AeroWand a reality. ?The company previously received an NSF STTR grant for $225,000 and a $20,000 Elevate Purdue Foundry Fund Black Award.

The AeroWand includes a head-tracking device, hand controller and transmitting antenna that plug into a user’s smartphone. Founder Byunghoo Jung says, for VR users, the technology is like giving a mouse to PC owners, allowing users to "engage (and) take action and the overall experience is more exciting, usable and fun."

Jung says the company’s first priority with the funding is to make a commercial-grade prototype. "This will help us present an actual product to potential customers," says Jung, "so they can see how it actually works and line us up for potential partnerships or additional investments in the future."

AccuPS is based in the Purdue Research Park of West Lafayette.
