The nearly $20 million project, which is set to begin in March, will include several ramp closures that are expected to last 150 days.
INDOT says, during construction, northbound traffic on I-65 will have three lanes while southbound I-65 will be reduced to two lanes. Additional lane closures will take place as needed during overnight hours and weekends.
Work on the bridges is expected to be "substantially complete," with all lanes and ramps open to traffic, before the end of the year, according to INDOT.
The ramp closures include:
- Eastbound I-465 loop ramp to northbound I-65
- Southbound I-65 ramp to eastbound I-465
- Northbound I-65 ramp to westbound I-465
The bridges being rebuilt were originally constructed in 1963. INDOT awarded the contract to Portage-based Superior Construction, which has a regional office in Indianapolis.
