Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch’s office says work by community organization Heart of Hagerstown helped the Wayne County town earn the designation.
Heart of Hagerstown consists of four pillar committees: Design, Organizational Structure, Promoting and Economic Restructure. The group works to connect business leaders with the community to promote their downtown.
"We whole heartedly welcome Hagerstown into the distinctive Indiana Main Street Program,” said Crouch. "Our downtowns are the heart and soul of cities and towns and I congratulate Hagerstown’s leadership for proactively taking steps to ensure its economic vitality and relevancy for years to come."
Hagerstown is the first addition to the Indiana Main Street Program in 2017. The program aims to encourage economic development, redevelopment and improvement to downtown areas throughout the state.
