The Evansville HydroFest will feature the American Power Boat Association’s North American Championships.
The three-day event, also known as the "Roar on the River," will feature 14 classes of APBA boats with 33 teams committed to the race to date. The boats use inboard powerplants instead of outboard motors and can reach speeds between 70 and 170 miles per hour, depending on their class.
The event is being presented by Evansville Events Inc., a nonprofit unit of the Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau.
"We are presenting Evansville HydroFest because our residents and visitors have asked for a new form of boat racing on our beautiful Ohio River," said Bob Warren, executive director of the Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau. "They want more boats, closer competition, less downtime, cooler temperatures and we will deliver. We chose Labor Day weekend because high temperatures will be around 85 degrees."
