Buzz Aldrin will give remarks at the second annual Indiana STEM Education Conference at the Stewart Center on Purdue’s campus.
Purdue says Aldrin will speak on his commitments to STEM education, his ShareSpace foundation which focuses on STEM education and his work advocating expeditions to Mars. His speech will open the conference, which will run from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
"We are honored to have Buzz Aldrin as our distinguished guest combined with a slate of more than 80 engaging STEM education presentations," said Carla Johnson, chair of the conference. "This combination is an outstanding opportunity for educators across Indiana and beyond to engage in professional growth and share the great work they are doing in STEM."
Last year’s conference had 600 attendees and Purdue says more than 850 are expected this year. The event is sponsored by the Purdue College of Education, the Center for Advancing the Teaching and Learning of STEM, the Indiana Department of Education and the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.
"There will be several schools from across the state presenting on their approaches to implementing STEM in their curriculum," said Johnson. "A number of faculty from Purdue will be sharing their work in integrated STEM education."
