Deaconess Cuts Ribbon on Hospice House
Deaconess Health System has cut the ribbon on a $10 million hospice facility in Evansville. The Linda E. White Hospice House, located on the Deaconess Hospital campus, will provide inpatient medical services for patients with terminal illnesses.
The facility has seven patient suites with space for additional seven more. Each suite includes patient areas with seating for visitors as well as an adjoining family area with two beds and a private bathroom.
The hospice house is named after Deaconess President and Chief Executive Officer Linda White, who announced her retirement last year. She will officially step down June 30.
"For the past 30 years, Linda has led the health system with grace and dignity," said Jerry Benkert, chairman of the Deaconess Health System Board of Directors. "As a group, we couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of this honor than Linda."
The health system says once the hospice house is open, the inpatient hospice unit inside Deaconess Hospital will be closed. The existing John and Betty Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville will remain in operation, according to Deaconess.
