The funding supports tuition-free programs tailored to industry-specific skills.
Two news conferences are scheduled for Friday during which officials will give specific details on how the funding will be used. The first will take place at the Subaru of Indiana Automotive Training Center in Lafayette at 10:30 a.m., followed by the second at the Ivy Tech Kokomo Technology Center at 1:00 p.m.
The board says Indiana’s grant will serve more than 1,100 workers in the 12-county region over the next four years. The funding adds to previous awards from the Ready to Work and Skill UP Indiana grant programs.
"This brings the total training funds awarded to Region 4 Workforce Board to $16 million in the last two years, with another $4 million in leveraged private and public investments," said Roger Feldhaus, executive director of the board. "In many respects, this America’s Promise Grant builds on the momentum created by those two earlier grants and the programs they funded."
The Region 4 Workforce Board serves Benton, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Fountain, Howard, Miami, Montgomery, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Warren and White counties.
