Purdue University Northwest is reporting fall enrollment of more than 15,000 students, including the newly-unified school’s first freshman class of around 1,300. The school says the incoming class’ college preparation test scores are "higher than ever before," compared to previous entering classes at the former Purdue Calumet and Purdue North Central campuses.

Purdue Northwests was formed by the unification of Purdue Calumet in Hammond and Purdue North Central in Westville. The move was approved in March by the Higher Learning Commission. The school says 9,194 students are enrolled at the Hammond campus, and 6,092 are enrolled in Westville.

The university says its incoming class is made up largely of "first-time, full-time freshmen," with 93 percent carrying full course loads and 95 percent who are 20 or younger.

PNW Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs Carmen Panlilio says the incoming freshman class "arrived on our campuses with a track record of high school success," and "have committed to course loads that place them on track to graduate in a timely manner."
