As part of the deal, the WKA will become the sanctioning body of Purdue’s evGrandPrix race held each year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Danny White, director of motorsports at Purdue, says WKA will manage the operation of the race, while Purdue Motorsports will manage the educational aspects of it. He says adding an electric karting division to the WKA circuit is a top priority.
"Purdue Motorsports will work with the World Karting Association to see how we can assist in the addition of a professional electric division to WKA karting," said White. "We are honored to work with this group to expand the future of evKarting worldwide."
The evGrandPrix is part of Purdue’s M-STEM3, or Motorsports STEM for Manufacturing and Medicine, initiative, which is designed to engage students in STEM through racing. Purdue says it will work with the WKA to create programs that promote STEM and build the fan base of electric karting.
