FRENCH LICK -

The Indiana Golf Course Owners Association has named the Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort the 2017 Indiana Golf Course of the Year. The course, which opened in 2009, is now among 50 competing for the National Golf Course of the Year award, which will be presented next year.

The award is given to courses that meeting four criteria, including exceptional quality of the course, exceptional quality of ownership and management, outstanding contribution to its community and significant contribution to the game. French Lick Resort says the course has brought millions of dollars in economic impact to the community.

"The Pete Dye Course has become a symbol of excellence in our region being an economic driver that is changing the lives of so many people through jobs, major golf championships, and our many charitable events such as Riley’s Children’s Foundation with our Legends Championship," said Dave Harner, director of golf for French Lick Resort. "We are honored and humbled to once again be selected by our peers and represent the state of Indiana at the national golf course owners event."

After opening, the Pete Dye Course received "best new course" awards from Golf Digest and GOLF Magazine. The course hosted the 2015 Senior PGA Championship and has been the site of many other major tournaments, including the Big Ten Men's and Women's Championships and the LPGA Legends Championship.

The National Golf Course Owners Association will announce the winner of the 2017 National Golf Course of the Year award at the NGCOA Golf Business Conference in February.

The latest Indiana golf course designed by Pete Dye, Chatham Hills in Westfield, is scheduled to open September 29.
