Notre Dame, AT&T to Partner on Master’s Degree
The University of Notre Dame is working with AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) to launch an online master of science degree in data science. The university says the degree will prepare students for careers in fields such as management, information technology, and healthcare.
The first classes in the program are scheduled to begin in August of 2017. The program lasts 21 months and is offered at a half-time pace "to fit the schedule of working professionals," according to the university.
"A graduate of this new program will be equipped with the academic training, analytical insight, imagination and practical skills necessary for success as a data scientist," said Elliott Visconsi, chief academic digital officer for Notre Dame. "Graduates will have the flexibility of mind to master new data science processes, tools and strategies as they emerge, and the ability to communicate effectively and act ethically in this exciting and fast-moving field."
Notre Dame says the program will feature small classes led by university faculty and in-person weekend immersions. AT&T will provide insights to supplement the curriculum, which will focus on real-world projects. Current AT&T employees will be eligible for discounted tuition.
The degree program is being offered by Notre Dame’s Department of Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics, in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the Mendoza College of Business and the Department of Psychology.
