(NYSE: GM) into its Marion Metal Center "couldn’t have come at a better time." Alan Miller says Marion has been "grasping for straws to find positive things that are happening," and the investment shows the automaker’s faith in the community and its work force.
GM officially unveiled the investment plans Monday. The equipment and facility upgrades will retain around 120 jobs. Stephanie Jentgen with GM in Indiana says the investment shows the automaker believes that plant is "a viable concern." The 60-year-old Marion Plant supplies metal products for cars, vans, trucks and SUVs to GM assembly plants throughout North America.
GM North America Manufacturing Manager Dan Hermer tells Inside INdiana Business the investment shows the company is "obviously very confident in the work force" of the team in Marion. During an interview with reporter Mary-Rachel Redman, he said the investment "certainly bodes well" for the future of the Marion plant.
The installations are expected to be complete next year.
