Partnership Aims to Boost Ag Career Awareness
A new partnership aims to provide students with a comprehensive resource detailing careers in the agricultural sector. The Indianapolis-based National FFA Organization, Discovery Education and AgCareers.com have created AgExplorer, which students can use to learn about potential career avenues.
The National FFA Organization cites the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which says more than 60,000 job openings will be available in the ag industry in each of the next five years and more than a third of them will not have the highly-skilled graduates needed to fill them.
AgExplorer features 235 agricultural career profiles that include job responsibilities, education requirements, average salary and current job openings, among others. Lori McFarling, senior vice president of Discovery Education, says AgExplorer will help students prepare to be college and career ready by connecting their interests and academic strengths with a "broad array of promising careers in today’s rapidly growing agriculture industry."
