As part of the expansion, the company has hired Rachel Russell to serve as vice president of development for the Carolinas.
Milhaus says the Carolinas is an "extremely desirable" market because of its strong job growth and high demand for multifamily and mixed-use properties. The company says expanding into the market will help it reach the goal of developing and acquiring properties with a market value of $4 billion by 2020.
Milhaus says Russell will be based in Charlotte, and will be responsible for managing development of each project in the market. She previously served as vice president of real estate development for Charlotte-based Grubb Properties, which specializes in the development of multifamily and mixed-use properties.
"Milhaus shares my passion for designing thoughtful urban core properties that enhance the livability and vibrancy of its neighborhoods," said Russell. "The company fills a unique need in urban housing by developing both small and large scale properties, and I look forward to bringing our mission of creating high-quality, timeless multifamily and mixed-use properties to the Carolinas."
Financial details of the expansion, as well as information on any other new jobs being created, were not released. The company says it already has a site under contract in Asheville, North Carolina and Russell will look for other sides in the region.
