Purdue University President Mitch Daniels is being nationally recognized for his work with public-private partnerships. The American Road and Transportation Builders Association has named Daniels its P3 Entrepreneur of the Year for his work on the $120 million State Street Redevelopment Project in West Lafayette.

The State Street project involves overhauling the corridor that runs through Purdue and into downtown West Lafayette. The effort is a driving factor in the proposed $1.2 billion Purdue Innovation District. The project received final approval from Governor Mike Pence in March.

Daniels has taken leadership roles in several public-private partnerships during his years at Purdue and as governor Indiana. They include the Indiana Toll Road, which generated more than $3.8 billion in cash for the state. Much of that money was used for the 10-year Major Moves transportation plan and a trust fund future infrastructure projects.

The association honored Daniels at its annual conference in Washington D.C. He also received the Overall P3 Champion award earlier this year at the Joint PBBC/InfraAmericas P3 conference in New York City.

The State Street Redevelopment is expected to be complete by the end of 2018.
