Indiana Wesleyan University has hired its first football coach. Jordan Langs comes to the school from Wheaton College in Illinois, where he served as the team’s defensive coordinator.

The 27-year-old Langs has been with Wheaton College since 2012, first serving as defensive backs coach, then defensive coordinator. He will remain with the school this season, ahead of IWU launching its football program in 2017.

IWU announced plans for the football program in April. At the time, the school said startup costs would run between $12 million and $15 million, including a stadium that would seat up to 4,000 fans. The program will start in the fall of 2017, with the first games likely coming in 2018. The team is aiming to join the NAIA’s Mid-States Football Association.

?Football will be the 18th intercollegiate sport at IWU, and the first new men’s sport in more than 45 years. When the school announced the program, Athletics Director Mark DeMichael said the addition will make Indiana Wesleyan "stronger and more sustainable" and add more than 100 students to its campus.
