It moved to Lake County in 2000 from Chicago and shares a facility with its parent, Crown Packaging. Polycon Industries currently employs more than 130 workers and is hiring for skilled machine operators, processors and mechanics.
Plans call for a new, 150,000 square-foot wing, which will increase its footprint by around 40 percent. The expansion will help increase production of blow-molded, high-density polyethylene stock and custom plastic containers. Polycon customers are in the chemical, food and health care industries. The company also offers custom molding and labeling.
Polycon has been offered up to $635,000 in conditional tax credits and as much as $30,000 in training grants from the Indiana Economic Development Corp. These incentives are contingent upon the company meeting its performance goals. The town of Merrillville is also providing support.
The company says it will post information about an upcoming job fair soon on its website.
