Subscribe NowThe Chicago-based parent company of one of the largest employers in northwest Indiana has named Robrecht Himpe chief executive officer. In the new position, Himpe will oversee ArcelorMittal Mexico, ArcelorMittal Dofasco and ArcelorMittal North America Tubular Products. Himpe will remain based at the steelmaker’s operation near the Alabama Gulf Coast, serving as executive vice president of ArcelorMittal and CEO of the Calvert, Alabama operation.
Himpe will help push forward the company’s Action 2020 efforts, which are designed to create "an agile and efficient structure that is adept at responding to market challenges and opportunities with confidence."
The company has five facilities in the northern part of the state. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report ArcelorMittal employs some 9.500 in Indiana, which accounts for around half the company’s U.S. work force. Indiana produces more steel than any other state in the country.
Last year, Luxembourg-based ArcelorMittal reported an annual loss of $8 billion amid a global steel environment being dominated by Asian producers.
