Jeff Gordon Returning to IMS
Retirement hasn’t lasted long for Jeff Gordon. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has confirmed the five-time Brickyard 400 winner will return Sunday, filling in for Dale Earnhardt, Jr., who is recovering from a concussion.
Gordon retired from NASCAR at the end of the 2015 season. He won the inaugural Brickyard 400 in 1994 and took the checkered flag in 1998, 2001, 2004 and 2014.
"We wish the circumstances were different, but we’re thrilled anytime we see Jeff Gordon on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval and know our fans will love seeing him race again," said IMS Doug Boles. "Between Jeff making a return visit and Tony Stewart making his final Brickyard start, this will be a legendary weekend for Hoosier race fans at IMS!"
Gordon will also fill in for Earnhardt the following week at Pocono. The Crown Royal presents the Combat Wounded Coalition 400 at the Brickyard will take place, beginning at 3:00 p.m. Sunday.
