Officials say the $8.8 million facility, located near Indiana Grand Racing and Casino, is on target to be complete by the end of the year.
The Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine has hired board-certified equine surgeon Tim Gudehus to serve as clinical assistant professor of equine surgery. Gudehus, who has been an equine surgery specialist in Germany since 2012, is slated to begin his new role in October.
Purdue has also hired two veterinary technologists who will work at the hospital, which is a satellite facility for the College of Veterinary Medicine. The new hires are currently training at the Purdue Large Animal Hospital in West Lafayette and will move to the Shelbyville facility when it opens.
Purdue broke ground on the facility in October and construction began in the spring. The 18,000 square-foot facility will feature advanced diagnostic imaging, shockwave therapy, nuclear medicine, regenerative medicine, endoscopic laser surgery and specialized equine orthopedic and soft tissue surgery.
