Brevini Group says Brevini Wind will cease operations in Yorktown, citing a "prolonged challenging business environment and financial pressure."
Around 20 workers will be affected by the decision. Brevini USA, a subsidiary of Brevini Group’s power transmission unit and its more than 40 employees will continue.
Brevini Wind Managing Director Brian Richardson says "while Brevini Wind may be ceasing operations in the United States, Brevini USA will remain, and we will work in a highly responsible manner to help mitigate the impact to our employees and the local community." He adds the company is continuing to find another company to occupy the facility where wind turbine gear box systems were produced. Brevini also says it will maintain the property, pay back outstanding, job-creation based incentives previously received and work with local officials to help lure another business to the facility.
The parent company launched its "One Brevini" corporate restructuring plan last year with a goal of improving "synergies" among remaining business units.
The gear system facilities opened in 2012 and the 130,000 square-meter operations include what the company says is one of the largest test benches for gearboxes in the country.
