Study to Focus on Brazilian Fountain
Rehabilitation will soon begin on a landmark that was created in the country of Brazil and given to the city of Brazil in Clay County. Indiana Landmarks says a grant will fund a study to determine what work needs to be done to repair the Chafariz Dos Contos Fountain.
The fountain was given to the city of Brazil in 1956 as a diplomatic gesture of friendship, according to Indiana Landmarks. It was sculpted in granite and matches a fountain of the same name in Ouro Preto, Brazil that was created between 1745 and 1760.
The Clay Community Parks Association received the grant from Indiana Landmarks’ Efroymson Family Endangered Places Grant Fund. The fountain’s masonry suffers from deterioration and the fountain’s water features do not function.
Indiana Landmarks says the Clay Community Parks Association plans to raise the money needed to fully restore the fountain.
