United Way of Central Indiana elected board officers during the organization’s annual meeting Thursday. Connie Bond Stuart, regional president of central and southern Indiana for PNC Bank, will take over as board chair.

Former board chair Steve Walker passed the gavel to Stuart as she begins her tenure as chair, saying he was "extremely proud to lead United Way of Central Indiana for the past two years. While our community supported United Way’s $60-million-dollar investment in focused initiatives and organizations, I know the value of that resource is ten, twenty, maybe even a hundred times greater on the lives of the people in our community."

UWCI also elected Deborah Daniels, managing partner at Krieg DeVault LLP in Indianapolis, to serve as secretary. Mary Boelke with Deloitte LLP will serve as treasurer.

The organization also touted the highlights of the previous year, including the establishment of a strategic partnership between UWCI, United Way Worldwide and Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly & Co. (NYSE: LLY). It also celebrated the achievements of the Indianapolis Preschool Scholarship Program and On My Way Pre-K, which served 1,500 children from low-income families.

"This year, United Way of Central Indiana led an intentional effort to create a community where all children are prepared to succeed in school, all families are financially stable, and all in our community are leading safe and healthy lives," said Ann D. Murtlow, president and chief executive officer of UWCI. "We are pleased with our progress, and thanks to a strong network of individuals, companies, foundations and strategic partners, we are uniquely positioned for even greater impact for years to come."
