Indiana Singer to Give Goshen Commencement Speech
An Indiana-based singer-songwriter will give the commencement speech at Goshen College next month. Carrie Newcomer, a Goshen College alumna, will speak at the ceremony April 24.
Newcomer was raised in Elkhart and attended Ball State University and Purdue University in addition to Goshen College. She currently lives with her family in southern Indiana.
One of Newcomer’s songs, "I Should’ve Known Better," was featured on Nickel Creek’s Grammy-winning album This Side. She has released 15 albums herself, the most recent of which, A Permeable Life, came in 2014 along with her book of the same title.
Newcomer has also served as a cultural ambassador to the American Embassy of India in 2009 and 2011.
