Developer Grows Former Football Hall Project
Plans for a new, five-story hotel that will be part of a repurposing and overhaul of the former College Football Hall of Fame property have grown. The South Bend Redevelopment Commission has approved an additional $500,000 for the project. Developers have added $1.7 million to their total investment.
The investment includes 20 more rooms and could bump the total cost of the project to as high as $14 million. The city’s investment is now $1.2 million, which was the original sale price announced last year for the venue when it was acquired by JSK Hospitality & Development Co.’s. The company has developed several other hotels in the region.
The Hall of Fame left for a new home in Atlanta, Georgia in 2012 and the building, which is in a prime downtown location, has been without a regular tenant. In December, JSK announced the partial football field on the property will be redeveloped for use as a public space.
An initial timeline pegs the completion date for the spring of next year.
