Supreme Court Returning to Corydon
The Indiana Supreme Court is returning to its roots. The high court will hold an oral argument in the original Supreme Court Courtroom in Corydon next month in celebration of Indiana’s bicentennial.
The Supreme Court held its first oral argument in May 1817 in the original state capitol building. The oral argument on April 20 will be available through an archived webcast and the Indiana Department of Education is encouraging classrooms to show the argument to students to teach them about the judicial branch.
The oral argument will be the final one heard by Justice Brent Dickson, who is retiring at the end of April. The Judicial Nominating Commission has selected three finalists to replace Dickson. Governor Mike Pence will make the final decision on who will take his place.
The oral argument in Corydon is invitation-only, however officials are holding a program at the Harrison Circuit Court at the same time as the oral argument in order to reach a larger audience.
