Grant County Economic Growth Elects Board Officers
The Grant County Economic Growth Council has elected board officers for 2016. Tim Street, president of Marion-based Bahr Brothers Manufacturing Inc., will serve as board president.
Street said during his presidency, he would like to not only "try and develop new businesses, but to do whatever can be done to help our existing businesses grow and retain existing employees through education and programs." The council says its mission is to facilitate investment and reinvestment for job retention and creation, and education is a large contributor to that mission.
The other 2016 officers include:
- President Elect: Bill Gartland (Atlas)
- Secretary Treasurer: Josh Matchette (Bowman)
- Vice President of Marketing: Tade Powell (First Farmers)
- Vice President of Resources: Anne Duncan (Owen Weilert Duncan Funeral)
- Vice President of Strategy and Evaluation: Scott Adams (Taylor University)
- Past President Karen Turner (Salin Bank)
The board also welcomed five new members, including:
- Thomas Gallagher (GM)
- Caitlin Finch (Indiana Wesleyan University)
- Alex Huskey (Ivy Tech Community College)
- Kyle Hawkins (Welch Packaging)
- Brett Carey (STAR)
Huskey agreed that education is crucial for Grant County. "Community colleges are often viewed as the institutions best associated with workforce development. However, many people now understand the value of the community college in growing and maintaining a skilled work force. I look forward to being a board member and having an opportunity to engage in robust conversations to gain insights for developing educational systems and programs to aid in the advancement of economic development."
