The organization says it will use the $750,000 to develop financial literacy and fundraising resources for faith communities.
The funding comes from Lilly Endowment’s National Initiative to Address Economic Challenges Facing Pastoral Leaders. The organization is giving $28 million in grants through the initiative.
Lake Institute says it has worked with more than 3,500 congregations and hundreds of religious leaders on the issues of money, faith and giving. The organization says the grant will allow it to expand its signature courses, including Creating Congregational Cultures of Generosity and the Executive Certificate in Religious Fundraising. The institute also plans to expand staff and provide training to adjunct faculty.
In a release, Lake Institute Director David King says, "Clergy continue to express their anxieties about discussing and leading their communities in understanding and addressing issues related to faith and money. Without increasing education regarding financial matters, this challenge will continue to inhibit the effectiveness of religious leaders and their institutions."
