Riverview Health Wound Care underwent an assessment process by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society to earn the accreditation.
The process includes a review of equipment and facility capabilities, quality of care and staff qualifications.
"We’re very proud to earn this recognition as it not only validates the high standards of care and safety we ensure our patients every day, but also reflects the dedicated team we have at Riverview Health Wound Care," said Tracey Ikerd, medical director of infection control at Riverview Health. "Although we treat complex wounds, the improved quality of life our patients receive is the true reward for us."
Riverview says its hyperbaric oxygen therapy is performed by surrounding the patient with 100 percent oxygen at higher-than-normal atmospheric pressure. The process creates increased oxygen in the blood, which allows red blood cells to pass through plasma more easily, thus helping a wound heal from the inside out while decreasing infection and inflammation.
