Colts to Play in Hall of Fame Game
The Indianapolis Colts will play in the National Football League’s first preseason game in 2016. The game will take place in Canton, Ohio, the day after former Colts Marvin Harrison and Tony Dungy get inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Indianapolis will play the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, August 7 at 8:00 p.m. in Canton. The league aims to match up teams with Hall of Fame representatives each year for the game. Because it is the first preseason game, the team will likely open its training camp early. NFL rules state that teams cannot begin camp earlier than 15 days before their first preseason game. For the 2016 Colts, that would be July 23.
The Colts have played in the Hall of Fame game four times. The team beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1964 and the New Orleans Saints in 1996. The Colts lost to the Minnesota Vikings in 1982 and the Washington Redskins in 2008.
The Colts have also been scheduled to play a game next season in London. The October 2 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars will be the team’s first game at Wembley Stadium.
