The initiative is designed to increase housing, business and community development projects within a defined area.
The University of Indianapolis is serving as the convener of the planning process. The Southside Quality of Life group will hold a Visioning Summit on February 27, during which members of the public can can voice their concerns and priorities. Some of the main topics include housing, connectivity, education, public safety, health and environment.
"Enhancing the quality of life in this part of the city is a core component of UIndy’s strategy for the future, and we’re committing significant resources to that end," said Robert Manuel, president of the University of Indianapolis. "It’s great to have this particular mix of partners joining in the effort, because the kind of change we intend to bring about can only occur through collaboration."
The group says the community will participate in monthly meetings to draft common goals and implementation strategies that will be included in the Quality of Life plan. The plan will be unveiled in the third quarter of 2016.
The Quality of Life plans were first initiated by the Local Initiatives Support Corp. of Indianapolis. To date, the other eight areas that have been involved in the Quality of Life planning process have resulted in a total investment of $458 million.
