The agenda lists 18 House bills and 32 Senate bills, all of which the Chamber either supports or "supports in part." One of the main bills listed is House Bill 1001, which would increase the state’s gas and cigarette tax to generate, along with state surplus funds, the $1.3 billion to $1.5 billion needed for a long-term infrastructure improvement plan.
"This publication provides clear input on issues that not only affect the Indiana business community, but communities, families and individuals throughout the state," said Kevin Brinegar, president and CEO of the Indiana Chamber. "We strive to provide our members, legislators and the public with a clear understanding of our positions on these key bills."
In an interview last week with Inside INdiana Business, Brinegar said a long-term road funding plan remains the Chamber’s top priority.
The agenda also lists several education bills, including HB 1002, which creates the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship. That program would provide students in the top 20 percent of their class up to $7,500 per year to cover tuition, if they commit to teaching in Indiana schools for at least five years.
