The four-year research project will involve Goshen’s Center for Intercultural and International Education.
The research will involve focus groups in Indiana, California, Georgia and Colorado’s Asian-American, Latino and African American communities. Researchers hope to identify the disparities in accessing mental health services among minority communities and come up with proposals on how to bridge those gaps.
Goshen College Senior Director of Intercultural Development and Educational Partnerships Gilberto Perez says the Indiana school will play a crucial part in the nationwide study. "We’ll play a very important role in providing access to people of color to share what works for them in accessing mental health services," says Perez. "We’re the bridge-builder between the research team and the community."
The schools have received a $125,000 grant from the National Institute on Minority Health Disparities for the research.
