The utility says a revised agreement includes additional savings for customers, solar grants and low-income energy assistance.
The Citizens Action Coalition of Indiana Inc., Sierra Club, Valley Watch and Save the Valley have signed onto the new agreement. The original settlement, announced in September 2015, involved the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor, Nucor Steel-Indiana and the Duke Energy Indiana Industrial Group.
As part of that agreement, Duke agreed not to bill customers for $85 million in deferred operating costs for the plant. The new settlement brings that number to $87.5 million. It also called on Duke to cap operating, capital and maintenance costs billed to customers in 2016 and 2017.
The plant began operations in June 2013. Duke Energy serves about 810,000 Indiana customers.
