State Releases Bicentennial Plaza Sculpture Plans
The centerpiece sculpture designs have been unveiled for the new Indiana Bicentennial Plaza. The winning artists hail from Indiana and New York and their submissions were chosen from a pool of more than 100 works.
The art will be located at the Indiana Government Center complex in Indianapolis, which is currently under construction and expected to be complete next October.
The first select design is called "Enduring Flame" (pictured below), which will be located at the north end of the plaza. It will be created by artist Osman Akan of New York, whose work has been in the New York Times, Trendsetter Magazine and Sculpture Magazine.

Bloomington-based artist Dale Enochs is the artist behind "Living Time Capsule," (simulated video of the planned work is above) which will be on the opposite end of the plaza. Enochs is best-known for his limestone sculptures. Some of his other works have been featured throughout the state, including a spherical, limestone sculpture outside the Governor’s Residence in Indianapolis.
IDOA Commissioner Jessica Robertson says "both sculptures speak to Indiana’s rich heritage and provide a robust investment to the State of Indiana. Our state is fortunate to have such talent contribute to the Statehouse grounds for visitors to enjoy."
The state says the two art pieces are expected to be installed in July.
