BLOOMINGTON -

Indiana University's board of trustees has voted to extend the contract of President Michael McRobbie for one year, through July 2021. The school says the extension will allow it to complete bicentennial activities before beginning the search for its next president.

McRobbie has led the university since 2007. IU says, under his leadership, the school has created or restructured several academic programs, completed the two largest fundraising campaigns in university history and experienced an increase in research funding. The school says it has also undergone significant growth and transformation in its physical infrastructure.

Board President Randall Tobias says McRobbie has "done a superb job elevating Indiana University's standing as one of the premier public universities in the country." He says the extension will allow the school to complete its strategic plan and ensure a smooth transition of leadership.

Trustees Jim Morris, Pat Shoulders and Andy Mohr will work to complete the details of the contract extension in the coming months.
