An informational event focusing on high-skilled career options is returning Friday to the WestGate Academy Conferencing and Training Center in Odon. Organizers of the Region 8 Works Council Career Technical Education Summit expect it to attract more than 500 students. The event will include panels, presentations and mock interview sessions covering the training pathways high schoolers will need before and after graduation.

The CTE Summit will also discuss soft skills, resume writing and scholarship and financial aid search information. The careers that will be highlighted include advanced manufacturing, information technology, health services, engineering and defense.

Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann supports the event and says "almost all of the 30 fastest growing occupations in the next decade will require at least some background in science, technology, engineering and math. CTE is an important tool in building the STEM workforce pipeline. Experiences such as these connect education to the workplace, helping students build more direct career pathways to in-demand careers."

The event is a partnership among the Region 8 Works Council, Monroe County Community School Corp., Ivy Tech Community College, Vincennes University, Indiana University, Indiana State University, the University of Indianapolis Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning, Radius Indiana, Duke Energy Indiana, MSP Aviation, TASUS, Jasper Engines and STIMULUS Engineering.
