The organizations say the funding will provide health and educational programming for thousands of elementary school students during the 2015-2016 academic year.
Playworks currently partners with eight Indianapolis schools, directly serving more than 7,000 children. The nonprofit says it serves another 3,000 children indirectly through training to educators and caretakers. IU Health says the grant will allow Playworks to double its impact next academic year.
The health provider says its continuing commitment to Playworks shows its support of "the power of play" for every Indiana child, especially those facing the largest economic and educational challenges. Playworks serves more than 900 schools in 23 U.S. cities.
