(NYSE: AA) will update progress Thursday morning on its $100 million production facility in La Porte. The aerospace manufacturer announced plans last year to build a 320,000 square-foot facility next to its current La Porte operations and add more than 300 jobs by 2019.
The plant will produce jet engine parts for regional, business and large commercial aircraft. At the time, Alcoa said the project would allow it to capitalize on "soaring" demand in the aerospace sector. Last year, the company opened a $90 million aluminum-lithium cast house in Lafayette, creating up to 75 jobs. Alcoa also has operations in Carmel and Evansville. Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann will join Alcoa executives for Thursday’s event.
Alcoa announced last month that it would split into two independent, publicly-traded companies.
