INDIANAPOLIS -

INDYCAR has announced a 16-race schedule for its 2016 season. The slate includes the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500, which is scheduled for May 29 and the Grand Prix of Indianapolis on May 14.

This year's schedule runs five weeks longer than the previous season and includes new events in Phoenix, Boston and Road America in Wisconsin. INDYCAR says it features five oval tracks, five permanent road courses and six temporary street circuits.

Hulman & Co. Chief Executive Officer Mark Miles calls the 2016 schedule "another key step forward in INDYCAR's strategic vision."
