WEST LAFAYETTE -

Purdue University President Mitch Daniels will travel to India and Hong Kong this weekend to encourage collaborative research, partnerships and stronger ties with alumni. The school also plans to create more international internship and engagement opportunities for current Purdue students.

Several Purdue executives and professors will accompany Daniels on the trip.

"Purdue has longstanding, close relationships with India that include research partnerships with Indian educational institutions. We want to work with India on addressing 21st century grand challenges like food security, climate change, smart cities, breakthrough manufacturing and inclusive entrepreneurship. These issues require pioneering research, and the Purdue-India relationship can help provide solutions," Daniels said.

School officials say nearly 1,700 students from India are currently enrolled at Purdue. They say thousands of Purdue alumni currently live in India and Hong Kong.

Daniels is scheduled to speak at the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce. He will also participate in a panel discussion at the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi. Daniels’ five-day trip will begin Sunday.
