Lilly Endowment Inc. has awarded a $1.4 million grant to Indiana’s tech growth initiative for a program designed to attract and retain tech talent. The funding will support TechPoint’s Xtern program, which focuses on matching college students with local companies.

The announcement marks the second grant the endowment has awarded to the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership Foundation to support TechPoint’s talent development efforts. $1.3 million in funding from the endowment helped launch the Xtern program in 2013.

TechPoint says the Xtern program is designed to create "the ultimate tech internship experience" by connecting tech-skilled college students with Indianapolis-area companies. Since the 2013 launch, the organization says nearly 600 college students at 33 universities in 14 states have applied to take part.
