Airport Looks to Put More Land to Agricultural Use
South Bend International Airport officials are seeking proposals for using airport property as farmland. The St. Joseph County Airport Authority says the available land ranges in size from six to 188 acres.
The authority says some parcels have restrictions, while others do not. Crop suggestions include mint, alfalfa and produce less than three-feet tall. Properties Manager Kerianne Linn "we already have farmers utilizing parcels for farming. These additional opportunities are important as they will improve our wildlife habitat management program and reduce costs incurred by the Authority."
Proposals are due by the end of October.
