USI Program Adds Degree
The University of Southern Indiana’s respiratory therapy program is adding a Bachelor of Science degree. The Indiana Commission for Higher Education has approved the four-year degree program. USI currently has a two-year Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy degree program. The university says the transition to the new program is scheduled for the fall of 2016. The program is in the College of Nursing and Health Professions.
“This is an historic move for USI. Our program has served the community well for many years, but we will now be evolving into a much more advanced program that will move our profession into the next generation. USI will be one of only four programs in the state of Indiana to offer a bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy,” Program Chair Wes Phy said.
USI says all core curriculum courses and most respiratory therapy courses will be offered on campus. Clinical training will be provided at several hospitals in the Tri-State area.
