Indiana University's media school and athletic department have announced a partnership designed to increase student opportunities and provide more comprehensive coverage of IU athletics. The effort will leverage the recently-established Mark Cuban Center for Sports Media and Technology to give students experience in sports media.

The school says the partnership will also involve the National Sports Journalism Center and include live event coverage for all 24 IU sports. Students will also take part in the production of virtual reality videos for fans, recruiting videos and video board displays.

Media School Dean James Shanahan says students have always had opportunities to be involved with producing sports media, but believes the partnership "ramps up those opportunities in terms of number and technical sophistication."

In June, Dallas Mavericks owner and IU graduate Mark Cuban donated $5 million to the school to launch a video, broadcasting and technology center. It is expected to open in the spring of 2017. It will be located at Assembly Hall, which is currently undergoing a $150 million makeover.
