The Metropolis Lifestyle Center in Plainfield is changing its name to The Shops at Perry Crossing. The change is part of a more than $11 million renovation that includes a redesigned central plaza.

News Release

PLAINFIELD, Ind. – Today, the Metropolis Lifestyle Center announced the redevelopment and rebranding of its 600,000-square-foot outdoor shopping center with a groundbreaking ceremony at Futura Park on the property. Improvements to the property, which will be renamed “The Shops at Perry Crossing,” will cost $11.1 million.

Tennessee-based Poag Shopping Centers is recognized as the founder and leading developer of Lifestyle Centers around the country. The developer, in partnership with Blue Vista Capital Management, LLC and Eightfold Real Estate Capital, LP and affiliates, are seeking to create a community-centric look and feel for the Metropolis Lifestyle Center that will provide a unique and satisfying experience for all visitors.

Josh Poag, president & CEO of Poag Shopping Centers, said, “We are proud to be part of Plainfield and look forward to implementing these plans to help Metropolis reach its full potential. The redevelopment and rebranding of Metropolis will revitalize the center and have a positive impact on the county and surrounding communities.”

Renovations to the property will include a redesigned central plaza with flex areas to accommodate events and spaces for guests to gather. Additional parking, signage and improved lighting will enhance the shopping and dining experience. Construction will be completed by October 2015. The rebranding will coincide with the grand re-opening in the fall.

“We want to give our guests the best possible experiences when they visit The Shops at Perry Crossing, so we’re thrilled that these improvements will offer exciting and engaging gathering areas and potential for growth,” said Julie Callis, general manager at Metropolis. “For our merchants, the shopping center raises the bar in attracting new shoppers and enhancing the experience for current guests.”

The lifestyle center concept is an open-air shopping center geared toward today's busy lifestyles. The center will offer the finest national specialty shops and restaurants as well as easy access, convenient parking, a safe environment, superior architecture and an inviting atmosphere.

“We are pleased and proud that Poag Shopping Centers has decided to heavily invest in the growth and success of this shopping center and our town,” said Robin Brandgard, Plainfield Town Council president.” This development is also another important step in the revitalization of the town to make Plainfield a premier entertainment destination for residents and visitors.”

Metropolis is located 10 miles southwest of Indianapolis and mixes dining, shopping and entertainment in an attractive setting. The center draws visitors from throughout Central Indiana to its 44 stores and anchors – JCPenney and Dick’s Sporting Goods – as well as restaurants, such as Claddagh Irish Pub and Stone Creek Dining Company. Also popular are its many boutiques and the Carmike Metropolis 18 theater. All Metropolis businesses will remain open during construction.

“We are overwhelmed by the potential of this redevelopment and what it brings to Plainfield and greater Indianapolis,” said Jaime Bohler Smith, executive director of Visit Hendricks County. “These improvements will attract new tourism opportunities, which in turn will enhance the growth and vibrancy of our town. We can’t wait to see what happens next.”
