South Bend-based Martin's Super Markets says it will open a Martin’s Express next month in Goshen. The company says the new format will feature an “easy-to-shop” store layout.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Martin’s Super Markets, headquartered in South Bend, Indiana, will open its newest store, a Martin’s Express, on Thursday, May 7 in Goshen, Indiana.

It will be the company’s 22nd store, located on property previously occupied by a Save A Lot. The store is located at 1401 College Avenue.

The 26,200-square-foot store will be the first execution of a new format to be operated by the company. It will feature everything fresh that shoppers have come to expect from Martin’s plus the rest of what is needed to complete meals, all in an easy-to-shop store layout.

A 10:00 am ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled at the front doors on May 7. Dignitaries expected to attend include: Rob Bartels, President & CEO, Martin’s Super Markets; Jim, McKee, President, Goshen City Council; David Daugherty, President & CEO, Goshen Chamber of Commerce; Gary Meszaros. Store Manager; Todd Bennett, Assistant Store Manager; and Bob Bartels, Chairman, Martin’s Super Markets.

“It’s been a team effort to focus the best of what Martin’s offers into a smaller footprint,” according to Phil Plummer, Vice President, Sales and Marketing. “At Martin’s Express, we’ve assembled a group of specialists who will be dedicated from day one to presenting the best, freshest and highest quality favorites shoppers have asked us to offer.”

The new Goshen Martin’s Express features all Martin’s regular weekly ad specials and customer reward programs. Martin’s Advantage Cards will be fully honored at Martin’s Express. The store will also have a Side Door Deli Caf?, Starbucks Coffee kiosk, Famous Salad Bar, full-service fresh Butcher and Seafood Shoppes, hot Deli foods, panini and sub sandwiches and beer and wine. Produce, Dairy, Frozen, Grocery and Health & Beauty Departments will offer a comprehensive range of the most popular selections.

“We thank the community of Goshen for their patience during the construction process” said President and CEO Rob Bartels. “Our hope is the community agrees that it’s been worth the long wait. We’re pleased to be able to open this store to conveniently serve the neighbors and travelers in Goshen’s south side.”

The store will employ approximately 85 employees both full- and part-time. Regular hours of operation will be 6:00 am to 10:00 pm daily. The store’s general office phone number is (574) 975-0962.

Among the activities planned to celebrate the store’s grand opening are:

-May 12, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm: Hoosier Lottery Wheel Spin; Each $5 lottery purchase earns a spin on the Wheel for prizes

-May 13, 10:00 am and 2:00 pm: Eat Smart Be Well store tours; Martin’s dietitian Kristin Humes heads two store tours; Free, but registration is encouraged

-May 14, 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm: Sip & Sample; Adults only wine and Deli sampling under the tent featuring harpist Meg Rodgers; Must be 21 to enter

-May 15, 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm: Meet the Chef; Meet Martin’s new Executive Chef, Melissa Bradley, who will host a free sampling event featuring Martin’s Kitchen Fresh favorites

-May 16, 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm: Kids Club Day; Free and fun activities for kids and guardians

-May 22, 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm: Roofsit Cookout Fundraiser with proceeds benefiting child abuse prevention and U93 Live Broadcast; $2 donation for food; Register to win a 2015 car from Jordan Automotive.

Martin’s Super Markets was founded in 1947 and currently has 21 stores in South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, Goshen, Plymouth, Nappanee, Logansport and Warsaw, Indiana, and Niles, Stevensville and St. Joseph, Michigan.
